"California Show Cars" refers to custom, one-of-a-kind vehicles built by various California-based customizers, often in the style of famous builders like Bob Reisner and the Barris brothers. These cars are characterized by their imaginative and unique designs, pushing the boundaries of automotive art and customization through features like multiple engines, unusual materials, and extravagant styling. California Show Cars was a custom car company founded by Bob Reisner, known for building unique and elaborate show cars like the "Milk Truck," "Bath Tub car," and the "Invader" twin-engine car. Reisner was a respected figure in the show car scene, and his company was recognized for combining craftsmanship with creative, often outlandish, designs in the 1960s and 1970s.

This extraordinary vehicle was built by California Show Cars, it is thought around 1970. It has formed part of a private collection in recent years, the vendor having had it restored some 15 years ago. The restorer, a David Woodfield, is full of knowledge and enthusiasm for this unique vehicle. He rebuilt the 455 big block (7.4 litre) engine and the automatic gearbox along with re-wiring the vehicle. The engine and gearbox are originally out of a 1969 Oldsmobile Tornado before being fitted to this Bob Reisner creation. Running on 4 x 48 IDA Weber carburettors, the engine sounds great, if a little loud! We are advised Jon Gurney engineered all of the carburettor linkages, he is obviously a highly skilled and patient man. Apparently, the big block engine puts out around 670 bhp, however it must be remembered that this is predominantly a show car the has been built to drive on sand, hence the name 'Sand Draggin'.
