JAGUAR E-TYPE SERIES I½ ROADSTER - £Auction

The 1968 Jaguar E-Type Roadster is a classic British sportscar that has become an icon of automotive design and engineering. Introduced in 1961, the E-Type quickly captured the public's imagination due to its stunning looks, powerful performance, and innovative engineering. The 1968 model year represented a significant phase in the E-Type's evolution, particularly with the inclusion of new safety and emission regulations that altered the vehicle's appearance and mechanics compared to earlier models. One of the standout features of the E-Type Roadster is its timeless design, which remains a symbol of automotive elegance. The sleek, long bonnet and graceful curves give the car an almost sculptural presence, while the two-seat roadster layout exudes a sense of exclusivity and freedom. The iconic open-air design is perfect for drivers who want to experience the road in its purest form, offering both visual appeal and driving excitement.

Under the bonnet, the E-Type was powered by the 4.2 litre inline-six engine, which replaced the earlier 3.8 litre unit. The engine produced 265bhp, providing a thrilling and smooth driving experience. Coupled with a four-speed manual transmission, the E-Type delivered impressive acceleration and top speeds of over 150mph, making it one of the fastest cars of its time. The 1968 model also introduced a more modernised interior, with improved comfort and updated safety features like headrests, which were made mandatory for that year. Unofficially known as a Series I½ due to the mix of features of the Series I and II including open headlights, but toggle switches on the dashboard and rear lights above the bumper.

Manufactured on 30th May 1968 and despatched to Mann Egerton on 11th June, this delightful E-Type Roadster presents very well in Carmen Red with Biscuit interior. The fastidious vendor has owned this Jaguar for the last 14 years and has enjoyed several long trips into Europe with this open top tourer. Fitted with a five-speed gearbox and A.P. brakes, we are advised by the private vendor this E-Type is a delight to drive. The car periodically has undergone extensive restoration at the hands of various specialists over the past 25 years (bills on file). The Jaguar Heritage Certificate shows the car as being manufactured in Primrose Yellow with black interior, it also confirms this as being a matching numbers example. Currently bearing a cherished number plate, this will be retained by the vendor and the car is expected to go back onto its original plate of ONR 927F. This genuine UK supplied right hand drive E-Type Series I½ is a first class example for collectors and driving enthusiasts alike. Consigned by Stewart Banks.
