ALFA ROMEO 1600 GT JUNIOR - £Auction
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at Silverstone Festival 2025 - Collectors Cars on Saturday the 23rd of August, The Wing, Silverstone Circuit, NN12 8TN. Built from 1963 until 1977, the Alfa Romeo 105/115 Series Coupés were the successors to the celebrated Giulietta Sprint Coupé and used the shortened floor pan from the Giulia saloon. The basic body shape, shared by all models, was designed by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone and although it was early in his career and one of his first major projects, this design is often regarded as some of his best work. The balance of glass and metal, the influence of the shape of the front and rear glass on the shape of the cabin and the flat grille with incorporated headlamps were all considered groundbreaking styling features for the era. Imported from South Africa in 2017, this particular 1600GT Junior has been the subject of a professional nut and bolt rebuild completed in 2021. It was stripped to a bare shell before being blasted back to bare metal to ensure that no corners were cut with regards to hidden areas of corrosion or deterioration within the shell. After the necessary repairs to the sills, wings, boot area and front valance were carried out, the shell was primed and repainted in Alfa Rosso to a superb standard with the underside being Raptor treated to ensure longevity. At this point the mechanical aspects of the Alfa were considered with the decision taken to upgrade where possible which involved the fitting of a replacement 1,962cc Alfa GTV engine supplied by VeloceSport, built to 'fast road' specification with a Petronix ignition system fitted to enhance usability. Sports suspension was fitted with adjustable suspension arms delivering an improved ride through a superb set of 15" alloy GTA-style road wheels. Additional enhancements include an aluminium foam-filled fuel tank with Facet fuel pump, alloy radiator with electric cooling fan, lightweight starter motor, uprated alternator, rebuilt brake servos and calipers all with new lines fitted with reliability and durability in mind. It should also be noted that all wiring was replaced with additional facilities built in should the future owner wish to fit spot lights, second fuel pump or rear rain/fog lights. A full wiring manual will be supplied within the history file. As you would expect from a build of this quality, the cabin space also received the required treatment with the seats being retrimmed in Magnolia hide enhanced by high quality carpeting providing an impressive interior which can only add to the overall enjoyment that we suggest this Alfa will bring to its next custodian. The owner's file contains an extensive photographic record of the restoration together with a copy of the Certificate of Originality from Alfa Romeo Classiche. With just 300 miles covered since the extensive and considered build was completed, it is suggested that a period of further running-in will be required to achieve the very best from this increasingly desirable Alfa and with that in mind we welcome and encourage your early inspection to ensure that this particular 105 fulfils your expectations.
