ASTON MARTIN DB4 SERIES 3 - £POA
Description
Stratton Motor Company are delighted to offer this truly stunning example of the increasingly sought after classic 1961 Aston Martin DB4 Coupe (Series 3).
Following success in motor racing in the 1950s the owner of Aston Martin, David Brown, turned attention to the development of a road going car that could echo some of those successes and hence the development of arguably the most famous of the three Aston Martins, the DB4, DB5 and DB6 which have cemented their respected place in the motoring history journals.
For styling he turned to the Italian Design House Carrozzeria Touring of Milan who developed the Superleggara (Super Lightweight) bodywork and the Tadek Marek, the Polish motor engineer who had defected to the UK at the beginning of the 2ndWorld War. He was tasked by David Brown with the design of an all new all alloy structured twin cam straight six engine which remained the power source right through the range from 1958 to 1971 where it the powered the early Aston Martin DBS.
The DB4 underwent five facelifts, including mechanical improvements and although they were never designated as such the Aston Martin Owners Club classified them as the Series 1 to Series 5.
This particular model for sale was designated as the Series 3, notably with the newly styled individual rear lights, five dashboard windscreen vents along with an electric rev counter. Mechanically the car remained much as its former counterparts. However, and what makes the Series 3 even more desirable is the fact it was only produced for six months between April and September 1961 during which only 165 Series 3 cars were ever built.
This particular car was registered and sold by Aston Martin sellers Brooklands and in its original colour Snow Shadow Grey with a contrasting Ink Blue Leather interior. Registered in July 1961 it spent much of its life in the UK before being exported to South Africa in 1982.
Around 2020 the car returned to the UK where it has undergone a complete documented restoration including new paint work by Spraytech and then mechanicals by a company in Northamptonshire which included complete engine/gearbox rebuilds to 4.2L along with a triple SU carb conversion and stainless steel manifolds. The rebuild also included sensible modifications which includes the installation of modern air conditioning and electric power steering amongst other things. Since it's full restoration, this car has covered less than 300 miles.
This car is simply stunning in the flesh and has to be seen to be fully appreciated.
