BMW M2 CS - £Auction
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at Race Retro 2026 - Collectors Cars on Saturday the 21st of February, Stoneleigh Park, Stoneleigh Rd, Coventry, CV8 2LG. Asking in excess of £75,000 for a BMW 2-Series sounds a little excessive on the face of it, but the car on offer for that sum in 2020 was simply one of the best driver’s machines of modern times. BMW M was aiming for the very top with its most focused M2 yet, and it succeeded with the CS earning a Car of the Year trophy soon after launch. Using the F87 M2 Competition as its starting point, the CS offered an output of 444bhp, matching the F80 M3 Competition from whence the S55 twin-turbocharged straight-six was sourced. Buyers could opt for a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and while the latter knocked two-tenths from the 0-62mph sprint, trimming it to just 4sec, most drivers preferred the involvement of the manual gearbox. The reworked chassis featured Adaptive M suspension as standard and a recalibrated Active M Differential, while an uprated cooling system and upgraded brakes ensured the CS was fit for intense track work. At 1550kg it was no lighter than the Competition, but a carbon-fibre bonnet and roof helped offset the enhanced hardware to ensure it was no heavier either. Also new were a carbon-fibre diffuser, splitter and 'ducktail' spoiler, and forged 763M wheels that were available in an eye-catching Frozen Gold shade. The interior received a makeover too, with perforated Alcantara, a carbon-fibre centre console and lightweight door cards. It also retained the rear seats, making it considerably more useable than some of its rivals. This was a blisteringly fast M2 that was also more communicative, predictable and engaging than the already excellent Competition, brilliant on road and track and undoubtedly a future classic. This M2 CS was ordered new by its one and only owner through Halliwell Jones (North Wales) Ltd. and was first registered on the 4th September 2020. Equipped with the desirable manual gearbox and finished in Black Sapphire with an Anthracite Alcantara/Merino leather interior, the CS had covered just 3,848 miles from new at the time of cataloguing. According to the new vehicle order form, this particular CS cost its one and only owner £78,124 and the specification is listed below: Reversing Camera Assist (£275) Electric Front Seats + Driver Memory (£541.67) *RFL12 (£1,850) M Sport braking system (£1,125) 19” NON-RFT Matt Gold M V-Spoke Style 763 M (£416.67) Paint Protection (£332.50) The car underwent its 1,200 mile 'running-in' service by Blue Bell Crewe BMW and it hasn’t been serviced for a few years, however, only a minimal mileage has been covered due to ill health, so the car will be due a service based on time expired since the last. The MOT is valid until the 12th December 2026. It has been stored inside alongside the other cars in the Collection and presents as you would expect with such low mileage This is a reluctant sale from the private owner of the Bunbury Collection and we welcome your inspection at our Race Retro auction. Please note that the private registration shown in the pictures is not included in the sale.
