2011 BUICK WILDCAT CUSTOM - £Auction
Vendor states: 1968 Buick Wildcat Custom (Pillarless 4-Door) Full Description: Registered on 15th August 1968, this Buick Wildcat Custom presents the classic American full-size car in pillarless four-door hardtop form — a striking body style that combines coupe-like looks with saloon practicality. Powered by Buick’s 430ci (7.1-litre) V8 producing 360bhp, with a 3-speed automatic column shift, power steering, and power-assisted brakes, the Wildcat offers effortless cruising with imposing Detroit presence. Originally finished in Tarpan Green Mist, the Wildcat was purchased new by a family in Kissimmee, Florida, where it remained until 2010. Family photographs accompany the car, showing it in its original colour and cherished by its first owners. Invoices from the 2000s detail regular servicing and maintenance, including a replacement twin-exit exhaust system with power-flow cross pipes in 2009 — an upgrade that gives the Buick an especially impressive soundtrack. Exported to the UK in 2010, the Wildcat was first registered here on 5th August 2011 to a Manchester-based keeper, who covered fewer than 800 miles in five years, verified by MOT certificates. Subsequent ownership in Ramsgate, Kent brought useful mechanical upgrades, including cylinder head work to allow reliable running on unleaded fuel (invoice on file for £844, February 2017). On Christmas Eve 2017, the car was purchased by its next keeper in Margate, Kent, who commissioned significant cosmetic restoration. This included a full repaint in metallic red (with replacement front wing and bumper), and a complete interior refurbishment: new headlining, retrimmed seats, door cards, dashboard, and carpets. Used for shows and weddings, the car was affectionately nicknamed “Britney” during this period, reflecting its status as a glamorous centrepiece. Today the Wildcat shows 97,740 miles (likely to rise slightly with use) and has proven itself on longer runs, including attending the American Classic and Custom Car Show at Beaulieu Motor Museum earlier this year. Since entering current ownership, around 1,000 miles have been added, underlining the Buick’s usability and roadworthiness. Still well-specified, it offers electric windows, air conditioning (compressor disconnected), original and modern radios, and working gauges — with the exception of the analogue clock, which does not function. Lighting and dashboard illumination work well, including the period dip/fullbeam floor switch. As a historic vehicle, the Wildcat is road fund licence and MOT exempt, as well as ULEZ exempt, and remains very reasonable to insure. Mechanically, it drives well, though the automatic gearbox can show delayed changes when moving up through the gears — a service is planned shortly which may improve or rectify this. The bodywork itself is in very sound condition, with straight, well-aligned panels, although the paint finish has deteriorated with flaking evident across the surface. Brightwork is in very good condition overall with little damage to note. Parts are easily available from the US, while service and transmission items are also readily sourced in the UK. With its blend of documented history, family provenance, restoration works, show appearances, rarity, and usability, this Wildcat Custom is a charismatic slice of late-1960s Americana ready for its next chapter.
