1967 JAGUAR E-TYPE S1½ 4.2 ROADSTER - £79,995
A BEAUTIFULLY RESTORED ORIGINAL UK RHD CAR IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION THROUGHOUT This Jaguar 'E' Type Series 1½ 4.2 Roadster - Chassis No: 1E1738 and Engine No: 7E4424-9 is an original UK RHD car and was supplied new by HR Owen in London and first registered on 6th July 1967 with its current number plate PLE 559E. Little is known of its early life, but we do know that the engine was changed very early on in its life by a Jaguar dealer under warranty, but Jaguar Heritage cannot confirm this on their certificate and according to the HPi check, the colour of the car was changed from Blue to to Red in 1979. According to a Sales Invoice in the history file, the car was purchased by its 5th owner from Horley in Surrey from Midland Sporting & Classic Cars Ltd in Burton on Trent for £29,750 in January 1989 and inspected by Jaguar specialist A J Turner of Redhill who identified a number of issues with the car and suggested it should be sent to Reliance Motors in Wolverhampton for restoration. Works carried out by them included: a new boot floor, new heel board, chassis rails, complete new floor panels, repairs to sills, a complete repaint of the bodyshell plus many new parts being fitted including new suspension components, new drive shaft UJ's, new Brake & Clutch Master & Slave Cylinders plus a new Clutch and upon completion of all works, the car was MOT'd with the mileage recorded at 79,868 miles. Over the following 10 years the car was hardly used by the owner and spent most of this time in storage until the car was given to Barclay Classics in Swansea in June 2001 for further restoration and recommissioning. Works carried out by them included a full engine rebuild, and there is a detailed invoice including time sheets in the file showing that they spent 334 hours on the car and the invoice came to a very reasonable £9,725.52 including parts purchased by them, but the owner also purchased many parts himself for Barclay Classics and there are a huge number of invoices from SC Parts and XK Engineering totalling a further £4,194 and therefore, the total cost of these works was just shy of £14,000. Upon completion of all works a year later in July 2002, the car was MOT'd the mileage was recorded at 80,579. In December 2002 the car was auctioned by Bonhams in Olympia, London and was purchased by the 6th owner who lived in London for £27,000 with 80,800 miles recorded on the clock! He kept the car for 6 years and spent a further £7,695 on the car including new carpets, new interior trim, new light units, Headlamp Glass, an original E-Type tool kit from the USA ($725), new Brake Calipers, a new Alternator and all new dash switches + some chrome trims. We sold the car for him in October 2008 to the current owner with only 81,785 miles recorded on the speedometer, so he also only drove the car for 1,000 miles during his 6 years of ownership. The current and 7th owner of almost 17 years has kept the car in a heated garage during his ownership and he has cared for the car very well including spending a further £10,000 on routine maintenance and repairs during this time. However, he has only driven less than 2,000 miles in the car over these 17 years and as a result of spending most of his retirement at his house in Portugal, he has made the difficult decision to sell it, so we have been given the This car is in excellent condition throughout and really is a lovely E-Type to drive. It has now covered a believed genuine 82,825 miles from new, but only 2,246 miles since the engine was rebuilt. It comes with an extensive history file including a huge number of invoices for all works and parts purchased, MOT certificates from 2001, Tax Discs, original Jaguar E Type handbook, workshop manual and parts lists, several Jaguar E-Type sales brochures and a Heritage Certificate. Upon sale the car will receive a pre-sales service and a new MOT (although exempt) and it will come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty which can be upgraded and extended at additional cost if required. Prices of many 1950's and 1960's sports cars have dropped in price quite considerably over the last 12-18 months, and the Jaguar E-Type is no exception. We have seen peaks and troughs in the Classic Car market a number of times over the last 35 years, but they will come back again in many cases, so it is not a bad time to consider buying a car like this beautiful Jaguar E-Type, particularly when you consider that a certain gentleman called Enzo Ferrari described the Jaguar E-Type as ''The most beautiful car in the world'' upon its launch at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show and apparently added that it was only missing a 'Ferrari' badge!
