1956 LAND ROVER SERIES 1 88IN SOFT TOP GALV CHASSIS - £24,995

Motodrome offer this quite superbly rebuilt 1956 Land Rover Series 1 88in soft top, on a galvanised chassis and in 7-seater spec. If you’re looking for a first class late Series One, I think you’ve probably found it. The last owner acquired it in 2014 looking rather tired, but already on a galvanised chassis and allegedly with a new bulkhead too. He then set about fully stripping it and starting again over a 10-year period All panels were professionally repaired and properly painted in Bronze Green. Front and rear axles rebuilt by M&M 4x4 Propshafts replaced New Jones leaf springs Speed rebuilt New correct Avon Traction Mileage 600x16 tyres fitted Full brake rebuild Rare and desirable Aeroparts winch fitted Steering wheel refurbished All galvanised body trims blasted and re-galvanised New Undercover covers front seats, bench seats, tilt and fume curtain New hood frame Carburettor rebuilt Full engine rebuild including unleaded conversion Radiator recored New exhaust system. It even has the correct semaphore trafficators, which work. However it’s also fitted with discreet normal direction indicators. He thinks he’s spent over £27000 on it over the years, excluding the initial purchase price, to bring it to the superb standard it is now. It has the correct 2.0 petrol engine, which from the block number is both period correct, and likely to be the original. It’s an original UK RHD home market example, and it’s Heritage Certificate shows it was dispatched to dealer Windmill and Lewis in Bristol on 14th June 1956. It was firswt supplied by them to a Mr Donald Elliott of Dulverton, who seems to have kept it until 1983. Sadly, but possibly understandably, the original registration number VTT 3 was transferred off the vehicle at some point, and it now wears the age-related number as shown in the pictures. We have a large history file with lots of bills, old MOT’s, and details of previous owners I can confirm it drives exactly as it should, with excellent steering (helped by being on the correct size tyres) and brakes. It starts on the button and performs superbly. I’d go as far as to say it’s the nicest late Series One I’ve ever driven To sum up, it’s a very correct late period Series 1 that can hold it’s head up anywhere. And get you there, and more importantly back, again. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to suggest that the only way to get one this good, is to have JLR Heritage build you one of theirs. But that will cost substantially more. On our own website, you’ll find our usual 2 videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description.
