The R230-generation Mercedes-Benz SL remains one of the most elegant and technically advanced models of its era, a car that combined timeless design with formidable performance. At the very top of the range sat the SL55 AMG, powered by a hand-built, supercharged 5.5-litre V8 producing some 493bhp. It was a car capable of effortless long-distance touring yet with a turn of speed that placed it firmly in supercar territory. This particular car is further distinguished by the coveted and costly P030 F1 Performance Package, an £8,500 option when new.
