motodrome are pleased to offer this lovely early ‘pull-handle’ 1964 MG B roadster with overdrive, finished in Green with black leather interior piped in cream, and with a black hood. Chassis no G HN 331379 Engine no 18 G A 12UH 1252 First UK registered 01/03/1964 It retains it’s early features including the shell, door handles and furniture, early hood frame, aluminium bonnet, 3-synchro gearbox, dynamo, and it’s 3-bearing engine, which runs beautifully. It’s fitted with a sports steering wheel, but the larger original one comes with it. It’s further fitted with overdrive, and chrome wire wheels This one has great provenance, including having had one owner from 1971 to 2022 – a full 51 years. There are copious notes and period photos in the file, and I’ll quote what he said about the car’s story: ‘I originally purchased this car in 1971, when I was 20 years old. In early 1981, a close friend Jayne said she wanted to renovate the car. The car was in good functional order but Jayne wanted to give it a new lease of life. I remember being horrified at the estimated costs but Jayne was adamant and so I agreed. The car was extensively renovated in 1984 at Abingdon Classic Cars. The receipts show that some £8700.00 (around £36000.00 in todays money) was spent to bring the car up to a high standard. I know Jayne took it to at least one classic car show. She then did around 1200 miles in 5 years in it, before putting it into storage on my behalf in 1991 (I was by then living in Spain) where it lived on axle stands and covered up, until 2017 when Jayne contacted me and asked if I’d like my car back. It then moved storage again a couple of times, and underwent recommissioning, before in 2022 I decided to sell as I was losing my storage again, and still living in Spain’. I can confirm that, having been carefully stored and only having covered around 2000 miles since Abingdon Classics restored it, it’s still in excellent condition, especially considering it’s really an older restoration now. The V5 shows just 4 previous keepers. ‘Heritage’ shells weren’t really a thing in 1984 and hence Abingdon Classics restored the original shell, which 40 years on is a better proposition in my opinion, as long as the work was done properly, which it seems was the case. Structurally, it had (but wasn’t limited to) new Front valance, front wings, inner wing strengtheners, top baffle plates, door skins, outer and inner sills, castle sections, 1 side rail, jacking points, crossmember, sill end plates, floor pans, rear wings, boot floor corners, rear chassis leg repair panels, and boot floor, plus all new chrome. All new chrome Full rebuild of the original engine. After a further period of lack of use 2022-25, it went to a classic car specialist in May 2025 for further recommissioning, including new batteries, exhaust, bump stops, axle straps, handbrake cable and remedial electrical work including new rev counter. It was further awarded an advisory-free MOT until June 2026, even though it’s now legally exempt. We have all the bills for the above in a nice file. Absolutely spot-on to drive, and looking fantastic (especially as it’s been 40 years since restoration), it will come with our usual 6 month warranty on sale.
