PORSCHE 911 3.2 CARRERA SPORT - £41,000

Many a car enthusiast, has dreamt of owning a Porsche 911 and few have set the pulses racing than arguably the poster car of the 1980s: the 930-generation 911, with its iconic 'whale tail' accompanied by fabulous performance. Launched in 1984, the Carrera saw the introduction of the 3.2 litre engine; although it remained an air-cooled 'flat-six', the 3.2 was 80% new, and was the first Porsche to wear the 'Carrera' name since 1977. With 231bhp on tap, the new 'boxer' motor endowed the Carrera with a level of performance approaching that of the original 911 Turbo of 1974, a torque-rich 231bhp, enough to propel the lithe and slippery coupe to over 150mph with 0-60mph coming up in 5.6 seconds. All 3.2 Carreras feature galvanised bodies which, together with Porsche's legendary build quality, ensure that these classics are long lasting.

This example is resplendent in Guards Red over black, which for most is the colour combination to have on an 80s 911. The condition of this car is particularly impressive considering its mileage, but those who know 911s know that a higher-mileage car shouldn't put anyone off: these cars are the ultimate useable sportscar, and often drive just as well at 200,000 miles as they do at 50,000. The most important part is how well they have been maintained: this example has more than £35,000 of maintenance bills in the history file and a service history with 19 stamps in the book alone, along with invoices for numerous work over the years. The major bills include a new clutch and stainless-steel exhaust including heat exchangers in 2002 at a cost of £7,000, which was enough to buy a 911 at the time! In 2004, a complete engine rebuild was carried out, at a cost of £8,000, with only around 40,000 miles covered since. In 2016, a bodywork restoration was carried out at a cost of more than £13,000, and it still presents very well today.

Included with the car are the original owners' manual and service booklet containing, a spare wheel, retro Blaupunkt DAB radio, three keys, a V5C registration document and a MoT test certificate valid until May 2026. This truly is an excellent 911 which has clearly been a cherished car throughout its life. Consigned by Fraser Smith
