When introduced the Rover P5B 3.5 Coupé was dubbed the poor man’s Rolls-Royce. What a way to diminish this car’s enduring appeal. Objectively this is a fantastic car in its own right, not needing any association with another marks product. The one we have here is an original Dutch supplied Rover P5B 3.5 Coupé, one of only 402 LHD versions. This car has already been restored once and very recently also has been fully reupholstered. The bodywork in this case is in wonderful condition. The nice and thin panelwork is correctly aligned. The chrome brightwork and bumpers is also in a fine state. The car has a lovely “Arden Green” finish. The quality of the paintwork is good and brings out the colour beautifully. Recently a complete refurbishment was to be carried out by an upholsterer specialising in British vehicles. Naturally, we can attest to the high-quality result of this sympathetic workmanship. The end product is fantastic. The wooden door and dashboard finish is similarly in great shape. All gauges and controls work exactly as they ought to. Mechanically speaking this car has been extremely well maintained. There is the ever-solid aluminium 3.5 litre V8 attached to a 3-speed automatic. This combination allows the car to be nibble-footed enough to effortlessly keep up with current traffic. The automatic adds to the car’s relaxed driving manner and the ample amount of torque present means that three gears are more than adequate. Both brakes and suspension are in fine condition, there to ensure an overall smooth transit to where ever your journey may take you. Finally, the great-sounding new stainless steel exhaust fitted will be there for the foreseeable future. This Rover comes with its original owner’s manual and first Dutch registration papers.
