UVA MR6 GTR - £Auction
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at Silverstone Festival 2025 - Collectors Cars on Saturday the 23rd of August, The Wing, Silverstone Circuit, NN12 8TN. The McLaren M6A was a 'Group 7' Prototype race car, designed and developed by driver and engineer Bruce McLaren and his motor racing team to compete in the 1967 Can Am race series. We understand that three of them were developed into road-legal coupés, one of which became Bruce’s personal mode of transport, a vehicle that eventually spawned the stunning tribute that we are delighted to offer here. Founded in 1982 by Alan Arnold, Newbury-based UVA (Unique Vehicle and Accessory Company) produced several instantly recognisable component cars throughout their short lived period in business with the M6 GTR being one of the most expensive kits available in the UK at the time, costing in excess of £6,000 when most offerings were no more than £600. Naturally buyers were few and far between, however this particular M6 was purchased by John Dunlevy, the longest serving Concorde engineer who clearly had the knowledge, the eye for detail and the determination to create this head-turning McLaren homage. With a build time and research period covering some ten years, the result is clearly outstanding, finished to aircraft quality with attention to detail that is rarely achieved. The process was helped by the fact that one of the original three M6s was made available to John for research reasons and he was also fortunate enough to be in contact with the McLaren family who kindly donated an original M6 badge to the project. It's powered by a fully rebuilt and enhanced 4-litre Rover V8 mated to an adapted 5-speed Porsche 911 gearbox, all beautifully detailed with the underside of the vehicle having the same exceptional finish as the top, meaning that a cursory glance is simply not enough to fully appreciate the lengths taken to ensure that this particular UVA is of the highest quality. Now correctly UK-registered as H6GTR and accompanied by a comprehensive history file including many hand-written notes and a photographic record of the build, the UVA now awaits its next custodian who will benefit from this fastidious build ensuring that heads will be turned on every journey, certainly not one for the shy and retiring! With very little use since completion, it is suggested that a period of running-in and acclimatisation will be required to get the very best from this rare machine.
